The Kennedy Compound

The Kennedy Compound consists of three houses on six acres of waterfront property on Cape Cod along Nantucket Sound in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts. The Main House was formerly the home of American businessman and investor Ambassador Joseph P. Kennedy, Sr., his wife Rose, and their nine children including John F. “Jack” Kennedy, Robert F. “Bobby” Kennedy and Edward M. “Ted” Kennedy.

Ambassador Kennedy bought the Main House in 1928 and Senator Edward Kennedy lived there from 1982 until his death in 2009. John F. Kennedy and his wife, Jacqueline, purchased another home, adjacent to the Main House, in 1956.

President Kennedy lived there and used this home as a base for his successful 1960 U.S. Presidential campaign and as a presidential retreat. Following his death, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis took ownership and later, Ambassador Caroline Kennedy. This home now belongs to Kiki and Ted Kennedy, Jr.

In 1957, Senator Robert F. Kennedy and his wife Ethel purchased a third home which abutted the other two homes. Mrs. Robert F. Kennedy continues to live in this home today.
